Paul Farbrace is the current Head Coach of Sussex CCC and having met him several times already we can honestly say that he is one of the funniest and engaging guys on the county circuit. His experience and knowledge are also second to none.
During a relatively modest playing career, "Farby", was a wicket-keeper and right-handed batsman who represented Kent and Middlesex, playing in 40 first class cricket matches and 28 List A matches.
But that was just the first part of his career, and Paul really has gone onto excel in the world of coaching since he finished playing.
Coaching career
After finishing with Middlesex, Paul moved straight into coaching, initially with the England women's team and the Mens Under-19s before returning to Kent. He also managed the 2nd XI at Yorkshire.
Meanwhile on the international front, in July 2007 he was appointed Trevor Bayliss' assistant as Sri Lanka coach, and later took over as head coach, winning both the Asia Cup and the World T20 with Sri Lanka in 2014, the latter against India with 2 overs to spare in a tense final.
Immediately after that T20 victory, Farbrace joined England where he worked as Assistant coach to Peter Moores. When Moores left, he was then appointed as interim coach for the visit of New Zealand in 2015, before being reunited with Trevor Bayliss, who came on board in time for that summer's Ashes series v Australia.
Paul eventually left England in 2019 to take up a new post as Sports Director at Edgbaston, and after 3 years moved to Sussex in December 2022 to take on his current role of Head Coach.
